![]() In essence, you get a monster on the field during either player’s turn and draw a card while shuffling something else back. Then you have to shuffle cards from your hand back into the deck equal to the number of Link Monsters they control. Then you have to draw cards equal to the number of Link Monsters they control plus 1. From the hand, in response to a Special Summon of a Link Monster being performed by your opponent, Phantazmay will Special Summon itself. (or many Level 8 Synchros) There are 2 great effects on Phantazmay that are a hard once per turn. I particularly like Level 7 because then a Level 1 Tuner could make Borreload Savage Dragon. I must say, I love everything about this card except the Atk should have been 100 points higher. Happy Fantastical Friday! Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay is a Level 7 Dark Dragon-type monster with 2400 Atk and 1800 Def. It doesn’t have the strongest defense, and reminds me of Dragon Ice, but much better. The way players tend to like to make big boards turn one can be punished by this card. You can force out an effect from your opponent and negate it, making them spend resources on their turn before you even draw. If that wasn’t enough, “Thanos Dragon” has a 1-for-1 quick effect to negate and destroy a card/effect that targets a monster(s) on the field. Getting to fix your hand before you even have a turn and off of your opponents plays, that puts you ahead without having to use your resources. ![]() Three link monsters? Draw four, cycle back three. Garnering at least $75 for one, this card can set the tone for a duel to go in your favor.Ī hand trap of sorts, Level 7 Dragon and DARK, you can drop this titan off a Link Summon of your opponents and benefit from a Skull Dread-like effect depending on the number of link monsters your opponent has. Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay or “Thanos Dragon” as it has come to be known, has become one of the most sought after cards in the game. ![]() Still, Cate Shortland’s Black Widow, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, Chloé Zhao’s Eternals and Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (which, sadly, bombed just before Covid) mostly didn’t get the red carpet treatment they deserved. ![]() 2020 was supposed to be the year with four big DC/MCU movies all helmed by female directors and starring female protagonists. The reason most/many of the movies that ended up on streaming platforms or ended up in theaters during this weird summer were “not-a-white-guy” flicks is because that’s what Hollywood was offering before the pandemic. That same day, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 (the most expensive, by default, movie ever made by a solo female director) was burdened with testing how an otherwise surefire blockbuster sequel would play as a theater/HBO Max combo release. Moreover, on Christmas Day, Soul (Pixar’s first flick with a Black lead) was tasked with seeing how a Pixar toon would play as a Disney+ exclusive. On that same Labor Day weekend, Niki Caro’s Mulan (starring an entirely Asian cast) being the first biggie to go the Disney+ Premier Access route. Last year, Chris Nolan’s Tenet (starring John David Washington as a James Bond-ish action hero lead in a $200 million movie that didn’t “require” a Black protagonist) was tasked with making theaters safe for blockbusters. That’s a pattern that has been in play since the start, or at least since Tenet. ![]() Conversely, the likes of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Top Gun: Maverick, No Time to Die, Spider-Man: No Way Home were moved outside of the summer season when it was presumed conditions would improve. This summer movie season was almost entirely fronted by films featuring the same demographics that Hollywood liked to argue were proverbial box office poison. Quick: What do Spiral, A Quiet Place 2, Cruella, In the Heights, F9, The Forever Purge, Zola, Black Widow, Old, Snake Eyes, Space Jam 2, Jungle Cruise, The Green Knight, The Suicide Squad, Respect, The Protégé, Candyman and Shang-Chi have in common? They are “big” summer movies fronted by “not a white guy” leads. Niki Caro's 'Mulan' and Chris Nolan's 'Tenet' Walt Disney and Warner Bros. ![]() This tension over the responsibility of power is the core theme of the game, permeating all of the major story beats throughout. This makes every draw feel tense, because if the card doesn’t offer the interpretations you’re hoping for, it could put a beloved character into a dire situation. Whenever you read the cards, you’re driving the narrative, often in very meaningful ways. I’m not usually interested in creating art like this in games, but the mechanics are clever enough that it never feels like you’re struggling from the paralysis of a blank canvas making it easy to find inspiration.Īs the story progresses, one thing becomes clear about your predictions: you’re never wrong. It’s an interesting system that sometimes encourages you to make a prediction you don’t necessarily want to in order to collect specific resources. This means if you find yourself leaning into more aggressive, fire element readings, your resources will be skewed to push you towards making those kinds of cards in the future. You can mix and match these images as you please on the card with some simple tools, allowing you to create varied and beautiful pixel art with relative ease.īased on the images picked and the elements associated with them, you’ll be given different interpretation options when the card is drawn during a reading, and each of these interpretations will award you a certain amount of resources when selected. When creating cards, you’ll choose from a series of images in three categories, each with a point value that’s tied to one of the four elements of magic in the game. While you do shape the narrative of the game through dialog choices like a traditional visual novel, a large amount of the story stems from tarot readings from your custom-created deck. After a short intro, you’re granted visitor privileges in your exile, so you spend the rest of the game being visited by various members of your witch coven, reconnecting with old friends and catching up on the current status of the coven at large. ![]() This being helps her craft a new deck of cards, but only after making a pact with it that will eventually incur a great cost. After 200 years, she makes a desperate pact with a forbidden being in hopes of ending her punishment and regaining her freedom. In Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, you play as Fortuna, a witch who’s been exiled to an asteroid, separated from the tarot deck she used to practice her fortune telling magic. Everything about the vibes of the game made me want to check it out, but would the intricacies of its themes be lost on me? When Deconstructeam, the team behind pixel art narrative games like Gods Will Be Watching and The Red Strings Club, announced Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, my lack of tarot expertise made me nervous. Despite being intrigued by its gorgeous imagery and symbolism, I’ve never really taken a dive into the history of the subject. Aside from its depiction in popular fiction, I know very little about tarot. ![]() It also includes basic information for standard flanges, wafer check valves, spade and spacers, and swivel flange assemblies.
